The Free State Legislature mourns the passing away of one of its Members
The Free State Legislature mourns the passing away of one of its Members, Hon David Mkhabela, and we wish to convey our deepest condolences to the family and his loved ones.
He was sworn in as a Member of the Free State Provincial Legislature for the 7th Administration following the 29 May 2024 National General elections and was a serving as the Secretary General of the African Congress for Transformation (ACT) for which he served with diligence, respect and utmost humility.
During his tenure as an MPLs, he served in the following Portfolio Committees:
- Public Accounts and Finance,
- Agriculture, Rural, Economic Development, Small Business, Sports, Arts & Culture,
- Public Works, Infrastructure, Roads, Transport & Human Settlements
- Education, Health & Social Services
- Cooperative Governance, Office of the Premier & Police
- Petitions
And the following Household Committees:
- Rules and Orders
- Chairperson’s Panel
- Whips’
- Government Assurances
- Programming
- Ethics and Member’s Interest
- Budget & Oversight
He will be remembered as a dedicated selfless humble servant of the people. An embodiment of Pan Africanist values that sought the implementation of Batho Pele principles in action and deeds at all levels of governance and service delivery.
The memorial Service will be held on Thursday, 14h00, on the 21st August 2025 at the Legislative Chambers, Fourth Raadzaal, President Brand Street, Bloemfontein.
He will be laid to rest on Saturday, 23rd August 2025 at the Kingdom Academy, C/o Ararat and Tempest Road, Welkom (2025)
