Free State Legislature Mourns Passing of Former MPL Mr Thembeni Nxangisa

The Free State Legislature has been informed by the family of former Member of the Provincial Legislature, Mr Thembeni Nxangisa, of his passing on 23 July 2026.

The Free State Legislature joins the Nxangisa family, the African National Congress, and the broader community of the Free State in mourning the passing of former MPL Mr Thembeni Nxangisa.
Mr Nxangisa was a Member of the 6th Free State Provincial Legislature (2019–2024). During this period, he served as MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, later as MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, as Chief Whip of the majority party, and as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Economic Development.
Speaker of the Legislature, Hon. Mxolisi Dukwana, extended condolences on behalf of the institution:
“We have lost a dedicated public representative who served the people of the Free State across several portfolios during his time in this Legislature. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and comrades during this time of grief.”
The Legislature will announce memorial and funeral details as soon as these are confirmed by the family.
