The Household Committee on Petitions, led by Hon. Jafta Mokoena, held a meeting at Ferdi Meyer Hall in Welkom, Matjhabeng Local Municipality.

The meeting was meant to address the Petition by the Residents of Matjhabeng against their Municipality. In this Petition, Residents of Matjhabeng Local Municipality are calling for the dissolution of the Municipality and Free State Legislature to act as the voice of the residents of Matjhabeng Local Municipality.
The residents submitted that their Local Municipality has failed to provide them with basic services in fulfilment of the executive obligation and developmental duties as set out in Chapter 7, sections 152 and 153 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.
This Petition is ongoing and further updates will be issued in due course as the Municipality is also entitled to a fair hearing and to respond to the evidence against it.
