The Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Hon. Mxolisi Dukwana, met with the newly appointed Free State SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thabang Solomon Lesia, to strengthen cooperation in promoting safety, accountability, and responsive governance across the province.

The Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Hon. Mxolisi Dukwana, today met with the newly appointed Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in the Free State, Lieutenant General Thabang Solomon Lesia, for a courtesy meet-and-greet engagement.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Speaker to formally welcome Lieutenant General Lesia to his new role and to reaffirm the importance of strong working relations between the Legislature and law enforcement agencies.
Discussions centred on the shared responsibility of promoting safer communities, strengthening accountability, and ensuring responsive governance across the Free State Province. The engagement also highlighted the important role of the Legislature in exercising oversight, supporting public participation, and ensuring that institutions of government remain accountable to the people.
The Free State Legislature recognises the critical role played by the South African Police Service in maintaining public safety, combating crime, and building public confidence in law enforcement. Through continued collaboration and constructive engagement, both institutions can contribute meaningfully towards creating safer and more secure communities.
The courtesy visit reaffirmed the Legislature’s commitment to working with key stakeholders in advancing the constitutional values of accountability, transparency, and service to the people of the Free State.
